Young peoples reaction to horror vs adults reactions
Comparing a younger audiences reaction to horror vs an adults reaction
These two reactions were very different considering that they were the same film. The adults had no jump scares at all while the younger audience got scared every time the masked people appeared. You could also say this is demand characteristics as the group of girls are all together and they are a friend group so they might just be reacting to each other but not actually to the film. At the same time they are laughing at some of the things in the film but treat it as a horror film when the scary parts appear.
The target audience of horror are from 15-25 as they prefer the thrill of the horror films also because the thrill excites them, this is shown in these 2 examples as the adults get very bored.
So here having completed this research I have realised that there is a fine line between fear and laughter, as a result on desensitisation, teenagers have become harder to scare but this blog proved to ,e that it is still possible, in a bid to avoid audiences finding my film humerus i will look to avoid cliques, and intend on completing market research to establish what my audience find most terrifying I also wish to settle on a more specific target audience, as gender, socio economics background and interests will all impact there response to my chosen narrative.
